Britain’s best editors, art directors and columnists were crowned last night at the prestigious BSME Awards 2024. The Oscars of the magazine world was held by the British Society of Magazine Editors in the beautiful Ballroom at Rosewood London. The annual awards ceremony is the highlight of the BSME’s calendar, designed to celebrate editorial excellence and innovation across digital and print publications in the UK.

The event was hosted by Ted Lasso actor Kola Bokinni and Gideon Spanier, BSME chair 2024 and editor-in-chief at Campaign.

WINNERS ANNOUNCED


Britain’s rising editorial stars were crowned at the BSME Talent Awards 2024. The annual ceremony for up-and-coming talent in the magazine and digital publishing industry was held by the British Society of Magazine Editors at 100 Wardour Street, London.

Winners included Karl Flinders and the Computer Weekly editorial team for the Post Office Best Campaign and the Which? TikTok team for Best Use of Social Media.

A total of 25 teams, journalists and creatives were awarded a BSME Talent Award, with 3 Highly Commended entries.

The event was hosted by Radio DJ for Radio 1 and Selector Radio and documentary and TV presenter, Sian Eleri and 2024 BSME chair Gideon Spanier, with DJ/Broadcaster Kennedy Taylor welcoming guests, and DJ Siggy ending the evening.

Gideon Spanier, BSME chair 2024 and UK editor-in-chief at Campaign, said: "The winners of the BSME Talent Awards 2024 deserve recognition for their brilliant journalism, creative flair and willingness to innovate.

"Encouraging and attracting new and diverse talent is vital for the future of the magazine industry, which is why these awards matter. "At the BSME, we believe in the importance of trusted journalism and its contribution to democratic life, so it is especially pleasing that Computer Weekly won Campaign of the Year for its work in helping to expose the Post Office scandal."

The annual awards ceremony is the highlight of the BSME’s calendar, designed to celebrate editorial excellence and innovation across digital and print publications in the UK. Winners included features and lifestyle director for The Times and The Sunday Times and editor of The Times Magazine, Nicola Jeal, who was named Editors' Editor of the Year, while the Mark Boxer lifetime achievement award went to Edward Enninful OBE, editor-in-chief of Vogue.

WINNERS ANNOUNCED

Britain’s rising editorial stars were crowned last night at the BSME Talent Awards 2023. The annual ceremony for up-and-coming talent in the magazine and digital publishing industry was held by the British Society of Magazine Editors at the new music venue STEREO in Covent Garden, London.

The ceremony is one of the highlight of the BSME’s calendar, designed to celebrate editorial excellence and innovation across digital and print publications in the UK.

Winners included Empire's features writer, Alex Godfrey, the PodPod Team for Best Innovation, gal-dem for the Diversity and Inclusion Award, while the Best of the Best Award went to Morgan Meaker from Wired.

A total of 22 teams, journalists and creatives were awarded a BSME Talent Award.

Entries were judged by a wide range of editors and high-profile guests, including BSME committee members Chris Lupton, Laurence Mozafari, Helen Graves, Andrea Thompson, Gideon Spanier, Hattie Brett, Cliff Joannou and Tim Pollard. They were joined by guest judges including Serlina Boyd and Damian Wild and all decisions will be overseen by 2023 chair Deborah Joseph. The BSME Talent Awards celebrate achievement, best practice and groundbreaking editorial creativity among grass-roots teams across all print, web and social platforms. They’re about shining a light on the rising stars in a profession full of them.

The annual awards ceremony is the highlight of the BSME’s calendar, designed to celebrate editorial excellence and innovation across digital and print publications in the UK.

Winners included Good Housekeeping’s editor-in-chief, Gaby Huddart, who was named Editors’ Editor of the Year in the household mag’s centenary year, while the Mark Boxer lifetime achievement award went to the late Marcus Fairs, founder and editor-in-chief of Dezeen, the design and architecture publication, who sadly passed away earlier this year.

BSME 2020 TALENT AWARDS WINNERS

The BSME Talent Awards rewards the brilliance of the all-too-often overlooked members of editorial and digital teams.  It’s the perfect opportunity to reward your brightest stars and showcase their work. There were a huge number of entries in the Talent Awards 2020 but there were only 16 winners.

Due to the COVID lockdown, the Talent Awards were celebrated over a video for the first time.
