LONDON, Wednesday 1 March 2023
The British Society of Magazine Editors (BSME) has announced the launch event of its Diversity + Inclusion trilogy, which is being led by Andrea Thompson, vice-chair of the BSME and editor-in-chief of Marie Claire.
Andrea is supported by Hattie Brett, editor of Grazia, and Cliff Joannou, editor of attitude and Rolling Stone (UK). Together, with BSME chair Deborah Joseph, European editorial director of GLAMOUR UK, they work with the committee of 17 leading British editors, editorial directors and art directors who run the BSME and plan each year’s events.
Andrea Thompson said:
"I'm delighted to be working with the British Society of Magazine Editors on three events this year that focus on increasing diversity and inclusion within the magazine industry. While progress has been made in recent years to address the lack of representation of many groups, there is still some way to go to ensure our media landscape genuinely reflects the country we live in.
"The three events, hosted in unique event spaces at London's Rosewood Hotel, will explore the barriers to entry for positions in the media and challenge outdated recruitment practices and company cultures that keep so many groups excluded from senior positions in the industry. We will also discuss the positive steps employers and editors can take to make their workplaces and brands more inclusive."
The BSME is delighted to be supported by The Rosewood Hotel for this trilogy of events and also the main Awards, which will be held there later in the year.
The Rosewood London is centrally located in the heart of London, moments from Covent Garden. Combining English heritage with contemporary sophistication, the retained Belle Époque architectural features include the original carriageway entrance to the grand courtyard and a spectacular Pavonazzo marble staircase, which rises over seven storeys. The hotel has the feel of a stylish London residence and houses 263 guestrooms and 45 suites including the Grand Manor House Wing, an exclusive seven-bedroom suite with its very own postcode. Tony Chi and Associates created the interiors of the public areas including 11 event spaces and the Mirror Room, serving elegant, innovative cuisine and celebrated art-inspired afternoon tea. The Martin Brudnizki-designed Holborn Dining Room and year-round outdoor terrace offer British classics with a twist, while Scarfes Bar serves creative cocktails alongside live jazz.
