The 2013 winner of the BSME’s Mark Boxer award, which recognises an outstanding contribution to the magazine industry in the UK, was Nicola Jeal. Nicola’s career has taken in the Evening Standard, as features editor; the editor’s chair at Elle; and The Observer, as head of magazines, where she launched Observer Food Monthly among a raft of titles. She is now editor of The Times Magazine, and has an increasingly high profile role at the group.
Nicola was interviewed by Kate Reardon, Editor of Tatler, at the Condé Nast College of Fashion & Design in Soho, where she discussed influences and inspirations, what makes a great magazine, and which have been her favourite titles down the years.
Here is a selection of images from the thoroughly interesting interview.
